Visa requirement summary
US passport holders can enter Thailand without a visa for tourism or short visits. Under current rules, American travellers receive a stamp-on-arrival allowing a stay of up to 60 days. No pre-arranged visa is required, and there is no cost at the border for the exemption itself.
Note that the Thai Cabinet has approved a move to a 30-day visa-free limit for most countries, including the United States. This change has been approved in principle but, as of late 2026, had not yet been published in the Royal Gazette — the step that triggers a 15-day countdown to implementation. The 60-day exemption remains in effect at borders until formal publication occurs. Verify the current position with the Royal Thai Embassy before you travel.
If you plan to stay longer than the visa-free period allows, apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) through the online portal at thaievisa.go.th before departure. A single-entry TR grants 60 days per visit; a multiple-entry TR allows repeated 60-day stays within its validity window.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
All travellers entering Thailand — including those who are visa-exempt — must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card before arrival. The TDAC is a mandatory electronic entry declaration introduced in May 2025.
You can submit it at tdac.immigration.go.th from up to 72 hours before you arrive. It is free; any third-party site charging a fee is not official. After submission you will receive a QR code by email — have this ready for immigration officers.
How long you can stay
Under the current rule, US passport holders may stay for up to 60 days per visit. You cannot work or provide paid services on a visa exemption entry.

There are no mandatory vaccination requirements for US citizens entering Thailand for tourism. No proof of vaccination is needed at the border.
Other entry requirements
Thailand strictly prohibits the possession, use, or trafficking of narcotics. Penalties are severe and include imprisonment and the death penalty for trafficking offences. This is enforced without exception regardless of a traveller’s nationality.
