Japan spouse visa requirements

This page covers the Japan spouse visa, officially called the Spouse or Child of Japanese National status. It lets the husband or wife of a Japanese citizen live in Japan, and you can do any kind of work on it. There is no minimum income your spouse must earn. Japan checks instead that the marriage is real and that you can support yourselves. Most of the process happens in Japan: your spouse applies there for a Certificate of Eligibility, which takes about three to four months. Only then do you apply for the visa at a Japanese embassy.
