Ireland spouse visa requirements

This page covers joining a husband, wife or partner who lives in Ireland. If your partner is an Irish citizen, they must show gross income of at least €75,000 in total over the 3 years before you apply, under rules in force since 12 June 2026. Spouses and civil partners of Irish citizens do not pay a visa fee or the €300 registration fee, and receive Stamp 4 permission, which lets you work without an employment permit. Unmarried partners must show you have lived together for at least 2 years and must get preclearance before travelling. If your partner is not an Irish citizen, what you need depends on their own permission: Critical Skills Employment Permit holders face no income test, while General Employment Permit holders need €30,000 a year and must wait before applying. Spouses of other EU citizens follow a separate route. Each guide on this page covers the full application process for a specific nationality, so you can find the exact rules that apply to you.
