Thailand entry requirements for travellers from Malaysia
Visa requirement summary
Malaysian passport holders do not need a visa to enter Thailand. As ASEAN neighbours sharing a land border, Malaysia and Thailand have a visa-exemption arrangement that allows Malaysians to enter Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa.
For longer stays, apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) at thaievisa.go.th before departure.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
All visitors to Thailand — including those entering by land from Malaysia — must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card before arrival. This has been mandatory since May 2025. Submit it free at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours before you cross the border. You will receive a QR code confirmation.
How long you can stay
Malaysian travellers can stay for up to 30 days per entry under the ASEAN visa exemption. A 30-day extension can be applied for at any Thai immigration office for 1,900 THB.
Passport validity requirements
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
Proof of funds and financial requirements
The standard expectation is 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family — applicable whether you enter by air or by land from Malaysia.
Onward or return travel
A return or onward travel booking is expected. For land border crossings, this is less strictly enforced but officers may still ask.
Health requirements
No vaccinations are required for Malaysian nationals entering Thailand.
Other entry requirements
Thailand prohibits narcotics and bans e-cigarettes. The visa exemption is for tourism only — employment requires a separate visa.
