Thailand entry requirements for travellers from Canada
Visa requirement summary
Canadian passport holders can enter Thailand without a visa for tourism and short visits. The current visa exemption grants up to 60 days per entry, with no pre-travel application needed.
The Thai Cabinet has approved reducing this to 30 days for most countries including Canada, but the change had not been published in the Royal Gazette as of late 2026 and was therefore not yet in force. The 60-day rule applied at borders at that time. Confirm the current position with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate before you travel.
For stays longer than the exempt period, or if the 30-day cap comes into effect before your trip, apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) at thaievisa.go.th before departure.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
All visitors to Thailand, including visa-exempt travellers, must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card before arrival. This is mandatory and free — submit it at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours of arrival. You will receive an email confirmation with a QR code to show at the immigration counter.
How long you can stay
Canadian travellers currently receive up to 60 days per entry. If you need more time, you can apply for a 30-day extension at any Thai immigration office for 1,900 THB.
Passport validity requirements
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date you arrive in Thailand. Airlines typically enforce this and may refuse boarding if your passport has less than six months remaining.
Proof of funds and financial requirements
You may be asked to show that you have sufficient funds for your stay. The standard requirement is 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family. Bank statements, cash, or a debit or credit card are accepted.
Onward or return travel
A confirmed onward or return flight is expected when entering under the visa exemption. Immigration officers may ask to see it, and airlines may require proof of onward travel before allowing you to board.
Health requirements
There are no vaccination requirements for Canadian citizens visiting Thailand for tourism.

Thailand has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Trafficking carries the death penalty. Possession for personal use is also a serious offence. This applies to all visitors regardless of nationality.
