Thailand entry requirements for travellers from Australia
Visa requirement summary
Australian passport holders do not need a visa to visit Thailand. Under current rules, Australians are entitled to a visa-exemption stamp on arrival allowing up to 60 days in the country for tourism and short stays.
The Thai Cabinet has approved a policy that would reduce this to 30 days for most countries including Australia. As of late 2026 this had been approved in principle but not yet gazetted — the formal publication that triggers implementation within 15 days. The 60-day allowance remained in effect at Thai borders at that time. Before you travel, verify the current position with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in Australia.
For stays longer than the visa-free period, apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) through thaievisa.go.th before you leave Australia.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
All visitors to Thailand — including visa-exempt travellers — must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival. This has been mandatory since May 2025 and replaced the old paper form.
Submit your TDAC at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours of arrival. The service is free. You will receive a QR code confirmation to show at the immigration counter.

The current allowance is up to 60 days per entry under the visa exemption. You can apply for a single 30-day extension at any immigration office in Thailand for a fee of 1,900 THB if needed.
Passport validity requirements

Proof of funds and financial requirements
Immigration officers may ask you to show evidence of funds. The standard expectation is 20,000 THB per person (approximately AUD 900) or 40,000 THB per family. A bank card, cash, or recent bank statement all serve as evidence.
Onward or return travel
You should hold a confirmed return or onward flight booking when you arrive. Immigration officers may request proof that you plan to leave before your visa-exemption stamp expires, and airlines often require an onward ticket before boarding.
Health requirements
There are no vaccination requirements for Australian citizens entering Thailand. No proof of vaccination is required at the border.

Thailand has strict drug laws — possession, use, and trafficking are criminal offences with severe penalties including the death penalty for trafficking.
