Japan entry requirements for travellers from Qatar
Do Qatari citizens need a visa for Japan?
Qatari passport holders can enter Japan without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. This applies to tourism, business visits, and family stays.
However, Qatari nationals are required to pre-register their ePassport at a Japanese diplomatic mission before travelling. This pre-registration is a one-time process and remains valid for up to three years. Without it, entry cannot be guaranteed at the port of arrival.
If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you must apply for a short-stay visa before you travel.
How long can you stay in Japan visa-free?
Qatar passport holders are permitted a maximum of 30 days per visit without a visa. This is shorter than the 90-day allowance given to most other visa-free nationalities.
If you need more than 30 days, you must apply for a short-stay visa in advance. A visa allows stays of up to 90 days, with the exact permitted duration determined by the immigration officer at the port of entry.
ePassport pre-registration requirement
Before travelling to Japan visa-free, Qatari nationals must pre-register their ePassport at the Embassy of Japan in Doha or another Japanese diplomatic mission. This is a separate requirement from applying for a visa and must be completed in advance of your trip. The registration is valid for up to three years once completed.

Passport validity requirements
Your passport must be valid throughout your stay in Japan. An ePassport (biometric passport with a chip) is required for visa-free entry. At least one blank page is required for entry stamps. Japan does not require six months of validity beyond your departure date.

Even without a visa, immigration officers may ask to see a return ticket and evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Accommodation details may also be checked.
Applying for a visa (stays over 30 days)
Qatari nationals who need more than 30 days must apply at the Embassy of Japan in Doha.
Documents required: completed visa application form, valid ePassport, one recent passport-size photograph (4cm x 3cm, white background), confirmed return flight booking, accommodation confirmation for your full stay, a detailed day-by-day itinerary, three months of bank statements, and an employment certificate or proof of occupation.
The fee is ¥15,000 for a single-entry visa and ¥30,000 for a multiple-entry visa. Standard processing takes 3 to 5 business days. Apply at least two to three weeks before your travel date.
Health requirements
No vaccinations are required to enter Japan. All COVID-19 entry requirements have been removed.
Other entry requirements
All arriving passengers must complete a disembarkation card on the flight. Fingerprinting and photography are taken at the port of entry. Cash or valuables exceeding ¥1,000,000 must be declared at customs.
