Australia entry requirements for travellers from Thailand
Do Thai citizens need a visa for Australia?
Yes. Thai passport holders must obtain a visa before travelling. Thailand is not on the Electronic Travel Authority list and is not covered by the eVisitor, so tourism and family visits are made on a Visitor visa (subclass 600), tourist stream.
Thailand is one of the countries covered by the frequent traveller stream, which can be granted for up to ten years for people who travel to Australia often.
How long can you stay in Australia?
The tourist stream can be granted for three, six or twelve months, decided by the department rather than chosen by you. Three months is the common outcome for a first application.
The frequent traveller stream caps each visit at three months but the visa itself can run for up to ten years.
Passport validity requirements
Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay. Australia does not apply a six month validity rule, although airlines and transit countries frequently do. If you renew your passport after the grant, tell the department so the visa can be linked to it.
Proof of funds
You must show you can support yourself throughout the visit and pay for your return travel. No minimum is published. Bank statements covering three to six months, employment or business evidence, and property records all help. A balance that appears shortly before you apply weakens the case.
If a relative or partner in Australia is paying, include their income evidence and a letter confirming what they are covering.
Onward or return travel
A confirmed return ticket is not needed to apply. Your application should nevertheless show your intended dates and the reasons you will return.

Health requirements
A health examination may be requested, particularly for longer stays and where health screening is indicated. Wait for the department to issue referral letters rather than arranging anything yourself.
A yellow fever certificate is required only if you have been in a yellow fever risk country in the six days before arrival.
Other entry requirements
Complete the Incoming Passenger Card on the flight. Australian biosecurity is strict, and travellers from Thailand are most often stopped over fresh fruit, dried seafood, meat products, chilli pastes and other homemade foods, seeds and herbal remedies. Declare everything of this kind.
Cash of AUD10,000 or more, or the baht equivalent, must be declared.
