Australia entry requirements for travellers from Fiji
Do Fijian citizens need a visa for Australia?
Yes. Fijian passport holders must hold a visa before travelling. Fiji is not on the Electronic Travel Authority list and is not covered by the eVisitor, so visits are made on a Visitor visa (subclass 600), tourist stream.
There is one point specific to the Pacific worth knowing: from 1 July 2026 a lower visa cost applies to eligible Pacific Island and Timor-Leste citizens lodging a valid visitor visa application. How long can you stay in Australia?
The tourist stream can be granted for three, six or twelve months, at the department’s discretion. Three months is the usual grant for a first application.
Passport validity requirements
Your passport must be valid for the whole of your stay. Australia does not require six months of validity beyond your departure date, though airlines and any transit country may. Tell the department if your passport is renewed after the visa is granted.
Proof of funds
You must show that you can support yourself for the visit and pay for your return travel. There is no published minimum. Bank statements covering several months, salary evidence, and evidence of employment, business or land holdings all help.
Where family in Australia are funding the trip, include their income evidence and a letter setting out what they will cover.
Onward or return travel
A confirmed return ticket is not required to apply, though your application should show when you intend to leave and what brings you home.
Applying for your Australian visa
Apply online through ImmiAccount from outside Australia. The tourist stream costs from AUD250, subject to the Pacific concession noted above.
Prepare your passport biodata page, a photograph, evidence of funds, proof of employment or business, your itinerary, and details of anyone you are visiting.
Biometrics at an Australian Biometric Collection Centre may be required. Book the appointment as soon as you are asked.
Health requirements
A health examination may be requested, particularly for stays over six months, for anyone who will spend time in healthcare settings or with children, and where tuberculosis screening is indicated.
A yellow fever certificate is required only if you have been in a declared yellow fever risk country in the six days before arrival.
Other entry requirements
Complete the Incoming Passenger Card on the flight. Australian biosecurity is strict, and items most often seized from travellers arriving from Fiji include kava, fresh fruit and vegetables, seeds, coconut products, and traditional items made from plant material. Kava is subject to specific limits and conditions, so declare it and check the current allowance before travelling.
Cash of AUD10,000 or more, or the Fijian dollar equivalent, must be declared.
