Australia entry requirements for travellers from Brazil
Do Brazilian citizens need a visa for Australia?
Yes. Brazilian passport holders must hold a visa before travelling. Brazil is not on the Electronic Travel Authority list and is not covered by the eVisitor, so tourism and family visits are made on a Visitor visa (subclass 600), tourist stream.
Brazil sends a large number of students and long stay visitors to Australia, and the department distinguishes sharply between a genuine visit and an attempt to live there. An application that is clear about the purpose and the return plan is far more likely to succeed.
How long can you stay in Australia?
The tourist stream can be granted for three, six or twelve months, at the department’s discretion. Three months is the usual grant for a first application.
Passport validity requirements
Your passport must be valid for the whole of your stay. Australia does not require six months of validity beyond your departure date, though airlines and any transit country, including the United States or the Gulf on a connection, may apply their own rules. Tell the department if your passport is renewed after the grant.
Proof of funds
You must show that you can support yourself for the visit and pay for your return travel. There is no published minimum. Bank statements over three to six months, employment or business evidence, and property records all help. A deposit made shortly before applying weakens rather than strengthens the case.
Onward or return travel
A confirmed return ticket is not needed to apply. Your application should nevertheless make clear when you intend to leave and what brings you back.
Applying for your Australian visa

Prepare your passport biodata page, a recent photograph, evidence of funds, proof of employment or study, your itinerary, and details of anyone you are visiting in Australia.
Biometrics at an Australian Biometric Collection Centre may be required. Book as soon as you are asked, because processing pauses until they are received.
Health requirements
A health examination may be requested, and is more likely for stays over six months or where you will spend time in healthcare settings.
Yellow fever matters more for Brazil than for most origins. If you have been in a yellow fever risk country, including parts of Brazil itself, in the six days before arriving in Australia, you must present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Check the current declared list before you fly.
Other entry requirements
Complete the Incoming Passenger Card on the flight. Australian biosecurity is strict, and items most often seized from travellers arriving from Brazil include fresh fruit, nuts, coffee with plant material, meat snacks, seeds and wooden souvenirs. Declare all of it.
Cash of AUD10,000 or more, or the real equivalent, must be declared.
