Do Saudi citizens need a visa for Japan?
Yes. Saudi Arabian passport holders must obtain a visa before travelling to Japan. There is no visa on arrival for Saudi nationals.
Saudi Arabian applicants can apply for a Japan eVisa directly online, without needing to visit an embassy or use a travel agent. This is the most convenient route for most applicants.
How long can you stay in Japan?
A short-stay visa permits a maximum of 90 days per visit. The actual duration is determined by the immigration officer at the port of entry and may be less than 90 days. Short-stay visas cannot be extended from within Japan.
Passport validity requirements
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay. Japan does not require six months of validity beyond your departure date. At least one blank page is needed for entry stamps.
Proof of funds
You must show evidence of sufficient funds for your trip. Bank statements covering the past three months are typically required. There is no fixed minimum amount, but your balance should reflect your accommodation costs and planned daily expenses.
Onward or return travel
A confirmed return or onward ticket is required at the time of application and when you arrive in Japan.
Applying for your Japan eVisa
Saudi Arabian nationals can apply for the Japan eVisa directly through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs online portal. You do not need to visit an embassy or use a travel agent.
Documents required: completed online visa application form, valid passport, one recent passport-size photograph (4cm x 3cm, white background), confirmed return flight booking, accommodation confirmation for your entire stay, a detailed day-by-day itinerary, three months of bank statements, and an employment certificate or proof of self-employment.
The fee is ¥15,000 for a single-entry visa and ¥30,000 for a multiple-entry visa, paid online by credit card. Once approved, the visa is linked electronically to your passport. There is no physical sticker.
Standard processing takes 3 to 5 business days. Apply at least two to three weeks before your travel date.
If you prefer to apply in person, the Embassy of Japan in Riyadh and the consulate in Jeddah accept applications.
Health requirements
No vaccinations are required to enter Japan. All COVID-19 entry requirements have been removed.

All arriving passengers must complete a disembarkation card during the flight. Fingerprinting and photography are carried out at the port of entry. Cash or valuables exceeding ¥1,000,000 must be declared at customs.
