Thailand entry requirements for travellers from Nigeria
Visa requirement summary
Nigerian passport holders are not on Thailand’s visa-exemption list and must obtain a visa before or on arrival. The primary option available without pre-arranging a visa is the Visa on Arrival (VOA), available at major Thai international airports.
The Visa on Arrival allows Nigerian nationals to stay for up to 15 days in Thailand. The fee is 2,000 THB, paid in cash at the immigration counter on arrival. The VOA cannot be extended — if you plan to stay longer than 15 days, you must apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) before you travel.
For any stay beyond 15 days, apply for a Tourist Visa at thaievisa.go.th before leaving Nigeria, or through a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in Nigeria.
Important: Thailand’s 2026 reform proposals would reduce the Visa on Arrival list from 31 to just 4 countries. The position for Nigerian nationals after this reform is not yet confirmed — check with the Royal Thai Embassy in Abuja or Lagos before you travel.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
All visitors to Thailand — including those entering on Visa on Arrival — must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card before arrival. Submit it free at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours before your flight lands. You will receive a QR code confirmation by email.
Applying for the Tourist Visa
If you plan to stay more than 15 days, apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) at thaievisa.go.th or at the Royal Thai Embassy before departure. You will need:
– A valid passport with at least six months’ validity beyond your travel dates
– A recent passport photograph with a white background
– Bank statements covering the past three to six months, showing at least 20,000 THB equivalent
– Confirmed flight bookings (inbound and return)
– Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings or invitation letter)
A single-entry Tourist Visa allows 60 days per stay and can be extended by 30 days within Thailand for 1,900 THB.
Visa on Arrival procedure
Visa on Arrival is available at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and several other major airports. You will need:
– A completed arrival form
– A passport photo
– Proof of onward travel out of Thailand
– Proof of accommodation
– 2,000 THB in cash for the fee
– Proof of funds: 10,000 THB per person

No vaccinations are required to enter Thailand from Nigeria. However, if you have recently been in a yellow-fever-endemic country, Thailand may request your yellow fever vaccination certificate — Nigeria is a yellow-fever-endemic country, so carry your international vaccination certificate (Carte Jaune / IHR card) with you.
